on the breadline

Finally got our road properly ploughed and cleared today, Chance to get out and get some scran. Was never exactly going to starve to death, but id managed to run out of milk, tea, bread, coffee, butter, cornflakes and bog roll in the last couple of days. And while those peculiar herbal tea sachets received from a weirdo treehugger chum three christmasses ago finally came in to play, I didn’t want to go back sixty years to using the Yorkshire Post for loo roll duty!

My delight at a pending escape from my four walls was somewhat muted, however, when i discovered the plough guy had piled up over a foot of snow and ice beside my van on his way past. Time to break out the shovel. An hour later and i was on my way. Drifting here and there made things a tad tricky, but the steep ascents and descents were clear, and they make up the worst of an icy journey.

It made me ridiculously happy to be able to get a newspaper for the first time in a week. I really need to get out more. To be honest, it could have been last week’s paper…covid deaths rise, Trump does something stupid, Tories make another mess of things, Sheffield United lose.

I guess it will come in if run out of bog roll again.

Stunning sunset tonight. If i ever work out how to download pictured onto this site ill let you all take a peek.
